Thanks Calum, had a play and it's not bad, but don't think it's going to
work for what I need.

I think I'll take a look at mdaemon after all.

Alternatively I guess I could write a filter program to sit between the iis
smtp server and the internet for now.

I'm wondering what nt based isp's use for their mail servers?
