That's more or less how I do it Paul.

If you use a PIR to activate an LD11, as I do in most rooms, then you
can tell the LD11 to go to, say level 31 (50%) if the night-time flag or
whatever you want to call it is set. Or you can do this by basing the
action on the time of day, but I find that just too unreliable, as if
you have a late night sortie then you get the lights dimmed even if you
don't want them to be.
