Yup
.... from what Steve Mogan said it seems that you're both absolutely
right.
I
have
to say that I thought it was daft nowadays to have UPSs on domestic systems
but
since moving in here about 18months ago I have changed my mind. We were
away
Mon/Tue/Wed last week in Kent and arrived home to find VCR clocks flashing
and
the mechanical CH timer about 8 hours slow - according to the neighbour who
was
feeding our cat there had been *3* power cuts!
That's
now *7* cuts since Xmas!

Arrived!
Phil, not sure if this helps but every UPS
I've
ever had uses a special cable - a standard serial one would never normally
work. I've user Fiskars, Chloride, and I'm now on my 4th Merlin
Gerrin
12kva 'la' UPS, thanks to a mental electrician friend of mine!

Hiya Geraint,
UPS arrived Friday and have had
it on charge since then, now up to 100%. Have installed Powerchute on
the
laptop but as soon as I plug in a serial cable then the UPS turns off -
any ideas?
It has been on overnight supplying the standby current to
my projector quite happily and I have just tried it again ... As soon as
I make a connection to my laptop then the UPS turns off (doesn't matter
if the laptop is on or off) and will not turn back on again until the
serial cable is removed.
The serial cable has worked OK on my
ISDN
modem, HomeVision, OnDodgy card programmer
etc.
