As the
crow flies my house is 500m from a telephone
exchange...
...unfortunately not *MY* telephone exchange.
According to the BT guy that came out to do my ISDN line last
year
we are hooked up to an exchange *IN WINCHESTER* which apparently
gives
me a cable run of somewhere in the order of 5km! The local exchange is not
due
to be ADSL enabled and even if it was then I'm told that BT wouldn't switch
me
to it and the exchange in Winchester won't be ADSL enabled as it serves
villages
outside of Winchester only and so none of the lines are close enough to
make
enabling worthwhile!

these things change very quickly and this information is no longer
valid. There's a new guy at the top now, broadband is a priority
within
BT ATM.
Mark,
I
spoke to BT a few weeks ago to try and find out if my exchange will be
converted (my area is on the conversion map on their website). The answer
was that it has not been converted and they have "NO FURTHER PLANS TO
CONVERT ANYMORE EXCHANGES".
So
unless BT decide to change their plans - if you haven't got it you are not
going to get it anytime soon :-(((
