This is not supposed to be a good idea because the mains
interference will generate noise in the CAT-5
cable.
Crossing mains @ 90degrees is okay, but long parallel runs should be
kept
at least a foot apart if possible.
Having
said that, it will probably depend on the application as to whether or
not
it matters. For PC networks obviously no noise is good noise - for IR
distribution, it may not matter.
I
get
some noise on my phone circuits due, I _think_ to the electrician ignoring
me
when I told him to keep the CAT 5 away from the power runs to the
bedroom.
Can't prove it of course & not enough knowlege of the stuff to know if
that
is actually the case, or if I've just cocked something
up....
I'm
