Yup
Use different channel & switch on the portable using suppliers
software

enough,

secrets...Probably applies to corporations.

my neighbour could pick up my data and access my fixed network, but
it's not so trivial, because data are encripted before
transmitted.

If routed to your ibroadband there is the risk
that some script kiddy or other scally will use your connection
to piggy back to do dodgy things. Not to your data but from your
connection so law turns up on your door. Some security is recommended.
Same reason you should have personnal firewall software. Don't make
life easy for these b*stards. There is a practice called war
driving where you put a laptop in car & drive around mapping
unsecure networks to use. The sooftware for this is easily
available (and legitiamtely used by security analysts & net
admins)
