xPLRioNet MVP Video Transcoding

Hi all,

Have just managed to transcode a WMV file to playback on the MVP :-)

This uses a transcoding method very similar to the transcoding of music.

I'm using a modified version of Mencoder.exe that was written for the
tystreamer project

The plan is to code it up properly now in xplrionet, and include the
ability
to transcode various file types (but you'll have to work out your own
transcoding settings!)

For those who don't know mencoder, it's capable of transcoding just about
anything (including divx and dvd's and streams)

Also this version can play tivo files apparently...

So the aim is to add transcoding for files, add a shoutcast style module
for
streams (and dvd?), and possibly a module to talk to vserver to list/play
recordings direct from a tivo.

Obviously you don't get anything for nothing in this world, and I know it
will be fairly memory intensive (and probably processor intensive too) but
I
think it's worth doing. Thoughts/comments?

I'd like to ask any vb.net (or c.net) programmers out there if they can
solve an issue for me that would reduce the processing time. The video
comes
in to xplrionet as type 'char' but has to be converted to type 'byte'.
Currently I'm having to loop 200,000 times a packet doing
bytevar(x)=asc(charvar(x)). Is there a faster/better way of doing this
please?

Many thanks
Tony
