RE: Cheap RFID systems

Hi Jim,

Places like Sparkfun, Seeed Studio etc offer various RFID modules and there
is even one for the Arduino.

If you fancy doing something clever for low cost and have a central
location
to collect the data, the LinkIt Assist 2502 from Seeed along with the Grove
125Khz RFID Reader and then add the tags for 125Khz (you get 5 for $2.5)
you
could built a nice integrated system with a display to show the data was
read and using the onboard GSM module, send the data to a central location.
It all depends on your budget and the comparison costs with the commercial
stuff.

Seeed have a special price on the LinkIt Assist 2502 just now. It's a real
bargain at that price.

There is also 13.56Mhz systems but they cost a little more.

Dave.

Very funny Scotty, now beam down my clothes.

Subject: [ukha_d] Cheap RFID systems

Not specifically home automation, but hoping someone with knowledge of RFID
systems will be able to point me in the right direction.

I'm looking for a cheap solution for tracking competitors on a walking
competition, recording them in and out of checkpoints.

There are commercial systems out there (SPORTident is the big one), but
that's no fun for a tekky and the costs are prohibitive for charity events.

So, anyone know of cheap cards/tags and readers to be able to build my own
system?

Jim
