One thing to check is how well the application you are proposing to use
manages on multi-core processors.  I recently upgraded to an i5 processor
and have been very underwhelmed - it performs great on synthetic benchmarks
but isn't very fast in normal use.  If you look at the CPU graphs 3 of the
4 cores are never doing anything.  TBH I think i'd have been better with
the fastest dual core processor available rather than a quad.  I'm
considering SSD and a graphics upgrade to try and drag this performance up,
but I think its just the nature of most of teh software I use.
