I think I agree 100% with what you said Howard. I commute 100 miles
(round
trip) every day in a fast car, and yes I enjoy my driving and the fact that
I feel safe having good handling, brakes and acceleration on tap. If I
could
have a car that would drive the same journey in the same time automatically
I'd go for it. Main reason - it would be safer for me and other road users,
and as a secondary it would give me an extra two hours to do something each
day.

Surely it is inevitable at some stage in the future (think long term) that
most roads will be for automated vehicles..... increased road capacity,
higher safety, lower emissions, less driver stress, shorter journey time,
etc

And significantly more than 1% of my driving is fun at the minute :)
