RE: [OT] iTunes question

I've been using iTunes for years and never really minded it, apart
from the
inability to "refresh" a collection held on my server.  But the
last couple
of versions - the ones that say Loading Library on startup and Closing
Library on shut down - are really awful.

My wife's machine in the kitchen (reasonable P4 with a gig of ram, XP Pro)
grinds to a halt as soon as she runs iTunes these days, CPU at 100% etc,
awful.

What else are people using on PCs to play from large library's?  I need to
find an alternative.
