[OT] GIS Question

Hi everyone,

I need some (off topic) help on this Friday afternoon.

I've got some work to do using GIS. I won't go into what is a rather
long story (needless to say that I can't get it done at work where we
use Arc as it's not installed on my PC) so I'm looking for some
(relatively) easy to use GIS Open Source software that I can load on
my home PC.

Problem is - I've never used GIS so something relatively
straightforward would be really helpful.

I'm not sure if there is anything out there but what I want to do is
to spatially map some raw data that I have for a few neighbouring ward
areas in England. I want to show graphically, the difference in data
between each ward area so rather than provide a table of stats I can
give a visual representation.

Does anyone know of anything available???
