Nowadays the Mac is set to spin the drives down when not in use because I
spend so much time away from here for work ... the problem with that is

spinning up and reading the directories of 23 drives in sequence obviously
takes quite a bit of time - several minutes in fact - which is not
acceptable when you want to watch a movie so when I'm using the movies
server regularly I do set the Mac to leave the drives spinning.

post however my 'leccy bill is about =A390 a month at the moment - is that
