I'm thinking along the following lines:

At the moment, if it is cold in the morning, I switch the heating on. Now
unfortunately I have storage heaters, which meansn that they will provide
no heat until the early morning. Now, if the following day is warm (a
situation quite common on our small island), then the overnight heating
will have been for nought. So surely if I know (or my home automation
system knows) what the temperature will be tomorrow then I/it can set the
heating accordingly. Proactive vs. retroactive.
