Electrical - different times of the day it's more responsive or not. And
turning the cbus switch on (the cable runs quite close to it as the IR
receiver is above the switch) causes the interference.

Yes, not earthed at the receiver end - it tried earthing the end in Node 0
back to the GND input on the Xantech distribution block.

Are you suffering electrical or optical interference ?

STP should be grounded at one end only. The other end should be insulated
so
that it cant touch anything.
