The OS for Sky+ I think is utter garbage. Trained monkey's could probably
have come up with a better OS but I can understand what they were trying to
do with it and that was not to upset the existing userbase. The fact that
it
is rank doesn't seem to factor in.

TiVo's OS is, from a useability POV, far, far, far better. End of story.

Here's the rub though, you want to use Sky and get the sound and picture
quality that is available fully then you're stuck with Sky+ for a PVR, no
choice is offered by Sky.

The only light at the end of the tunnel may be in the form of Sky defeating
themselves by making the PVR ever more popular with the endless advertising
spend on promoting Sky+. But then, for the normal consumer (i.e. not us
geeks), do they really need any more than Sky+ offers currently, especially
if they don't know any better?

Direct boxes with a different OS, doubt you'll ever see them as Sky are to
paranoid about their system being opened up to hackers. Which you can kinda
understand, even if it is very irritating.

K.
