Hi Gary,

Not this year, since in April there was the inaugural Smarthome show in
Birmingham, which a great many of us wanted to go to, and so the impetus
for running a UKHA meet *as well* just wasn't there...

Plus I think Mark & Graham were well up for a year off!

As good as it was, the Smarthome show is a very different kind of
gathering than the dedicated UKHA meets, which is both good and bad...

The downside for me was that we therefore missed the social intercourse
between the large number of UKHA'ers that we always used to get at our
meets... - Granted; a number of us did arrange to coordinate our visits
and hotels etc. so we did have probably something like 15-20 of us
meeting up, but that obviously comes no-where close to getting several
hundred of us together... Plus since the cost of exhibition space at the
show is considerably more than would be feasible for us to have a UKHA
stand, there therefore wasn't really any "personal" element to
the
show... (Notwithstanding the Simply Automate stand....) - specifically
this meant that there was no opportunity to see/touch/play with/ the
various projects that many of us are beavering away on in our sheds, and
which a great many more of us are intensely interested in... - things
like KAT5 switcher prototype, xAP/xPL developments and many many more...

I know that the Smarthome show is definitely arranged again for next
year, and is expected to be considerably larger (which can only be a
good thing) so it would appear as though the show will probably be a
permanent fixture judging by its evident commercial success.

That said, my personal hope is that the separate UKHA meets don't die
off completely because of this competition, but that's a separate
discussion entirely....
