You may be trying to put the sky output on a channel that has a digital
channel
on it. These wont really show on an analog tuner (they can sometimes be
detected
as a change in the whitenoise) - I would try the sky on a different
channel.

Without a spectrum analyser or a _good_ field strength meter what you are
doing
is hit and miss. I found here that simply putting 3 db attenuators on my
sat
reviervers outputs before combining and an attenuator on the antenna got
everything pretty much spot on level wise into the amp, before I had
herringbone
interferenace all over the place and loads of channels had mixtures of
others on
them.
