Re: Re: [OT}: how to make PVR any ideas welcome

Get yourself over to http://www.mythtv.info/ and have a good
browse
around :)
[yes I'm biased when I suggest that site]

I think that the consensus is that Hauppage make the best capture cards.
Their 350 card is also the best TV-out card - but it can be tricky to
get working with Myth.

IMHO If you are after absolute top quality then you don't want a TV set
anyway, you want something that takes a VGA type signal like a plasma or
projector - in which case you want a decent video card (which usually
means NVidia because of driver support under Linux). If you're not that
bothered about top notch quality then an NVidia card with s-video output
gives a damned good image.

Freeview is easy - you need a dvb card.

Oh, do yourself a favour - read the archives for the myth-users mailing
list before just launching in and asking questions. Unlike ukha they're
not the most tolerant folk if beginners just come along and ask
questions which 10 minutes on Google would answer :)

David
PS I have a PC/projector in the lounge running Myth and a diskless PC/TV
in the bedroom. My sky box is in the study along with my freeview ariel
and they both plug into a backend system with 1.2Tb of disk space - you
can fit quite a few episodes of Bob The Builder on that ;)
