Tony for this type of install I would use mains cable

Sound quality will be fine

How about a quad 405 from ebay for the amp Nice bit of retro in the house

Hey Keith - that's excellent thanks - I even understand your ascii art
:)

I guess I'd need about a 100w amp, per your example, to be able to get a
decent enough level around the place.

Can anyone suggest a reasonably cost effect, sweet sounding system that
will do the job - amp + radio as a minimum, possibly with CD also.
May even want to hook into a PC too......

What about cable - with long runs, do I need to get something decent or
just "anything that is not bell wire" ? :D
