Being an MCDBA, I guess I'd better own up then :-)

I don't have much time, but if no-one else comes forward, please feel free
to call on me.

My guess it that you're only going to want some thing simple like=20

Barcode, description

Index this on barcode, if you want to get clever and link store shopping
cart codes to it, then you can either add these to the base table or have
separate "linked tables" which can be joined by barcode.
