Yes.  Mine is currently being used to take up valuable space on my desk
until I
can be arsed to take it apart and get it going again.
I want mine purely as a backup medium, so my initial backup, which would
practically fill the drive, was failing because it was trashing the drive.
I need to take it apart, backup, re-assemble because it will only be
differential backups from then on.....Or I wait till the middle of winter,
turn
the radiator off in my office and back it up then :-)
