The thing that bugs me though, is that it stops if the TiVo is switched
into Standby; so it is as if the TiVo is sending an echo out of the
AUX-In SCART.

Would cutting some of the unnecessary pins in the SCART help?

It does sound like a classic case of cross-talk within the cable.  If
the left-right movement freezes when TiVo is paused that suggests it's
the cable connecting the Sky box to the Tivo.

Two questions:

Do you still see the problem when using the TiVo AUX button?

What are the TiVo settings for "Aux Source" and "Video
Output to TV"
under the "SCART Settings" menu?
