Tivo problem... FTP server hangs?

Fuelled by the recent Tivo email/cron discussions, I finally got round to
installing my TurboNet card and TivoWeb.
It all went, hardware fitted after some minor surgery to one of the the
Tivo's feet, FTP'ed over TivoWeb, telnet'ed in and installed it OK.
HTTP'ed in and saw that it was good.

Apart from  the lack of the User Interface, the main point of the
exercise....
Ah!, reading further down Tony's page, I need to install the UI.TCL
script....

Now my problems start, three times now in my tinkering the FTP server
running on Tivo has hung, so no more FTP until I reboot. Which is a tad
inconvenient.
Telnet and HTTP still work fine. Anyone come across this before? What am I
doing wrong? Is there any way to restart the server from the telnet
session?
