No, AFAIK it's a government run scheme to cut down junk calls.

No idea TBH but I rarely ever get a sales call now and for work I honestly
can't remember when I last got a "wind up a colleague" fax. :)

It also seriously reduced the amount of junk mail that fell through the
letterbox. As it says though, it does take time for it to kick in and work.

The email one only affects UK companies and seems to be pretty ineffectual
at the moment but I registered for it anyway, can't do any harm.
