Thanks David. I'm not using Xantech dist blocks (IR is distributed via a
multi zone music amplifier system). I think I did before but I'll stick
my scope on the output and see what I'm getting. I guess it's possible
that the amp is 'over amplifying' the signals?

I went through all of this with sky+, and some other equipment using the
xantech gear. I did have a symptom though that all was not well, the
activity led on the microlink (and hence all the emitters) were
continually
flashing slightly, like they were picking up background noise. I tried a
few
things, and emailed xantech support. one of the things that they
suggested
checking was the voltage to the xantech distribution block. I have
bought
the xantech in the uk from a well known HA supplier, so didn't think
this
would be a problem. however when I looked at the psu closely it didn't
say
regulated on it, so I measured it and it was  17V not 12V. So, I
replaced it
with a regulated supply (measured 11.98v) , and the noise disappeared.
Furthermore, I have been able to move the emitters on various bits of
kit
directly on to the IR receive windows, rather than suspending them on
bits
of CD cases to hang them the necessary 3 or 4 inches away as was
required
before.
