This does sound like a DNS issue, in my experince for XP to work properly
with a Win2K server running active directory, the XP clients have to have
the Win2K server as their primary DNS.  If that's not possible with your
setup, you could alway try a hosts file on the client machines pointing to
your server

How so brown cow? The client machines use external DNS servers, the
server uses it's own.

Any other settings I should look out for?
