Looks to me like the old Post Office plug used on the old style telephones.

It was possible to move phones around the house if you had what looked like
a large Jack Plug on the cord. Of course you had to pay extra and they were
rare. Looking at the picture it looks as if it is old enough, 20 years ? if
you open it up it should just be straight through connections...

I got the keys to my new house the other day, and there's a couple of
objects in there that I can't identify, the first one I've found out via
Google that it's an aereator thing for the central heating for removing
air from the system ... nice.

The beige box thing though has no markings on it, can anyone see what it
is?
