Err, without wishing to start a huge flame/debate over Consumer Rights
again, I should point out that the Act states "...goods shall be of
merchantable quality and fit for stated purpose..." (not quoted directly

Having made your requirement known at the time of purchase, I would enforce
this right.  If you paid by credit card, then you may have some redress with
them too.  Either way I wouldn't let them shaft you like this.
