Tony,

If you, like me, are plagued by Techie people who claim that a TA is
different from a modem because the TA isn't modulating/demodulating.
Then the following argument has been known to work:

"YES IT IS! - just because it's not modulating an analogue carrier in
the audio band doesn't mean it's not modulating or demodulating! How do
_you_ think waves travel down co-axial cable!"
