Isn't it usually only RGB or SV/Comp you have to select on these things?
Maybe it detects on the basis of nothing on the <which ever SVideo pair
is
not being used when you are using composite> pins?

I guess 7 quid ain't so bad - but it does mean more connectors that could
come loose when you're fiddling around with your setup :-)
