We frequently change controller cards on old 6gb quantum drives that go titsup.com, but only to get the data off, not as a permanent solution.

I'd imagine this would also affect you warrenty.......

it is just one ribbon lead from the controller to the harddrive section.
it would be nice to get my data back as i don't have all the data backed up :-(

To be honest it will not be cost effective to repair unless there is critical data on it. By cost effective I mean lots of money vs. seventy quid for a new one. No doubt you have a backup? ;-)

If you are planning to buy a drive and swap the boards to recover it I wish you the best of luck. This is not something I would have a go at.

Due to a defective case and lack of brains on my part I have managed to
Rip 3 components off the main board on my Deskstar 75GXP 46.11gb harddrive.

Can anyone of you electronics boffins help out or anyone know of someone selling
The harddrive. It should be a simple matter of just replacing the controller pcb
