The level directly output from a microphone would be quite low but would
pass through KAT5 and could be fed into a MIC input at the distant end but
the signal to noise ratio would not be as good as if you used some form of
pre-amp to boost the level prior to sending. An alternative would be a
custom KAT5 transmitter that amplified the signal prior to sending it. I
would have to experiment to find the optimum component values to ensure
satisfactory operation.
