It may well work as far as transferring heat goes but compared to Artic
Silver it isn't terribly good.

Artic Silver has a thermal conductivity of greater than 8 W/mK, standard
zinc oxide stuff is less than 1 W/mK.  A higher value here is obviously
better.

Of course if your heatsink isn't up to dissipating the heat then it doesn't
matter too much what you use.
