1. To eliminate serial issues, use hyperterm to test the meteor -
2400 baud, N 8 1, no handshaking.

2. Meteor draws it's power from the serial port. I've had problems in
the past with the serial port not being able to source sufficient
current, although it was enough to light the LED's. ISTR a mod being
published which illustrates how to wire a wall-wart for Meteor use -
this may be worth a try.
