I knows a lot of peeps ;o)

Notably most of them have contact, who have contacts, who….

I might have a source for patch panels + related data stuff from Nortel, but I’m waiting on confirmation. See they upgrade their systems rather often, like every 18 months and a lot of the cabinets, racks, routers, patch panels etc. all get tossed, so I am trying to come to an arrangement with a couple of Nortel boys. Will keep you all posted if I get anywhere.

I just got a couple of boxes with a sh1tload of DIN rail that was ordered by *mistake* by one of them! ;o)

You gotta try.

K.

I bought one of the Compaq laptops from Temp and they wanted to sell me a five year warranty for it (for nearly £400 IIRC) ... the guy seemed suprised when I told him that I didn't expect to be using the machine any more in two years time let alone five!

*chuckle* Is there anyone that you don't know?

Not a chance of a correct answer, but they will sell you a warranty :->

If you want to expand Tivo I have a contact for such a thing ;-)

Some "TIVO Truths" I've been told by the salesdroids...

Q : "Does TIVO support composite, S-Video or RGB output?"

A : "No ... it's SCART only."

Q : "How much recording time do I get and what's the quality like?"

A : "About two days and it's as good as DVD, if you want better quality then he recording time comes down a bit."

Q : "Is there any way to get more recording time at best quality?"

A : "Yeah you can fit a bigger hard disc."

Q : "Who does that? TIVO?"

A : "No, you just stick in a big hard disc like you would in a computer, of course it invalidates the warranty so I shouldn't tell you but you just stick in a bigger drive - if you can put a hard disc in a PC it's easy."

Q : "Can you have more than one TIVO on a subscription?"
A : "I don't see why you would want more than one but yes."

Q : "Can I have a demo?"

A : "Yes ... there it is." [Points to rolling TIVO demo.]

Q : "What I mean is can I actually see it woking? See it recording and playing back something?"

A : "No."

I'm just waiting until I get correct answers from a salesdroid ...

Once overheard a salesdroid in Comet tell a customer that even if they used a SCART lead connect their satellite to their Nicam TV they still wouldnt have Stereo Sound because satellite didnt use NICAM.

I take great pleasure in asking questions and seeing how deep a hole the sales person will dig for themselves. Cant consider getting a TiVo as no shop round here can demonstrate it because they havent got subscriptions.
