Was this valve in the boiler? Interesting.

IME on all heating/water systems the valves are the dodgy bit. They
either don't work, or when they work don't operate the microswitch to
fire the boiler.

With skill you can replace microswitches, and it's also possible to
swap-out motors and heads rather than replace the whole thing.
