That flexible plastic strapping they use to bind big boxes? Not sure of
the proper name for it, but it's generally white, about a centimetre
wide, quite flexible and very strong. You can push a loop of that into
the wall and it expands on the other side of the hole quite nicely. Drop
your line down, withdraw the packing strip, and Bob's yer proverbial.

The stuff I have in mind is kinda like brickstrap, except it's plastic
not metal. I'm sure someone will be along shortly with the proper name
for it!
