Martin,

The ADSL socket (master socket replaced by BT) will accept a standard
RJ45 plug so I patched it though to a CAT5 outlet near my PC. The USB
ADSL adapter has an RJ-11 plug which I have plugged directly into my
CAT5 outlet. (My ADSL outlet is in Node-0 and my PC was in the
study.) The cable length from socket to adaptor is approx 12m.

You can get Ethernet ADSL adaptors but they are quite expensive.
