It isn't X10 or anything else for that matter but RS and
others do some three electrode liquid level sensing switches
which will turn the supply on when the water reaches a pre-set
low level and turn it off when the water reaches a pre-set
high level.

I'm thinking of using them for filling my grey water
re-cycling header tank.
