That's what I thought at first, but 'S' only appears to mute the mic while
it's held down, and I just need to press and release it for Comfort to
notice- odd, but having got the DECT phones it's no longer needed
anyway. I suspect you're right about it being related to noise, but not
knowing Comfort's 'triggers' and how it detects DTMF tones it could
probably be a number of other things too.
Out of interest, I'll try it sometime and see if I need to press '*'
quickly after 'S'- maybe the (electret) mic stays quiet for a short period
after I release 'S'. It could be a combination of that and the phone
producing fixed length tones which might be too short for the '*' to be
noticed reliably if there is any additional noise.
