There is a way to add X-10 to lights without rewiring, you could add the
LD10 above the ceiling rose. The extra wire you have to run is for the
light switch, but if you put in next to the rose, it's only a short wire.
There is the problem though of getting access to it if it goes wrong,
you'll have to pull the upstairs floorboard up each time.

Also remember that if you wire a normal switch to the LD10, while it's on
with the switch, you won't be able to control it via X10.
