Umm I'm afraid not...
The tip in all cases carries a signal, and the large ring carries
the
ground, i.e.
On a mono plug you have:
1 Ground
and on a stereo plug
1 2 Ground
Where one and 2 are signals (i.e. left and right)
If you plug a stereo plug into a mono socket, depenind upon the
contact
design of the socket, you with either ground the 2nd signal connection
or
not connect it all.
