While vaguely on the subject of PIR's can anyone recommend something
that won't be activated by passing animals (cats, foxes, etc.) and
moving hedges but will be activated by passing people and cars?
I have a long drive which runs up one side of the house and is bounded
by a large fir tree type hedge about 9 feet away.
There are PIR activated lights at each end of the house monitoring this
drive and were installed by the previous owner.
The PIR's are separate from the lights so can be swapped out easily.
The problem with the existing PIR's is there does not appear to be any
way of adjusting the on time and the dusk setting.
Hence they come on when it's still quite bright and remain on for a few
minutes each time.
They also seem to be fairly sensitive as they activate nearly all the
time!
I've tried adjusting where the sensor points and masking off parts of
the sensor with tape but the slightest movement of the large hedge
opposite sets them off.
As I don't want two 300w floods on for several hours each day I have
disconnected them...
The PIR's at the front and rear of the house aren't affected by moving
hedges but are occasionally activated by passing cats and foxes - this
I
can live with but it would be nice to factor these out as well.
I'm looking for a simple / cheap solution - which I reckon is replacing
the PIR's.
Anyone got any recommendations / sources.
