I've been looking into getting an MP3 player for the car (SWMBO said
she
wanted one!).
What seems to make sense to me is to have a unit that's 'integrated'
with
the head unit (ie I don't want to have a separate control panel to
running
an MP3 player which simply plugs into an AUX socket). I'm expecting
to have
to replace the current head unit to do this. The first ones I looked
at
were Blaupunkt. They play MP3 off CD. I wanted more than one CD
worth of
MP3 to be permanently available though so I thought about adding a
changer
in the boot. I haven't been able to establish whether you can play
MP3 out
of the changer, I guess it depends what the changer sends to the head
unit
(data or sound?) and whether the changer itself can decode MP3.
Then I moved on to thinking that what I really want is something like a
DDAR/RIO with a radio and a hard disk built in, that fits in the DIN
enclosure. Pioneer appear too do such a beast, but it's about 1.5K
and only
has a 20G disk. I don't see why I can't compromise and install the
disk
drive remotely and have it 'spoof' a CD changer or something similar.
I
have seen one such device, but had difficulty finding info on
compatible
head units.
Anybody got any recommendations? Waiting for about 12 months is the
best
option I've come up with so far!
