Hi Folks,

My CM12U stopped responding a few days ago. At the time I was too
busy to sort it out, however at about the same time I noticed a
strange smell. I should have put two and two together!

I assume the unit is a gonner. Is this common? Could it be caused by
having dead batteries in the unit? At about the same time it died I
turned the power off to do some re-wiring perhaps it didn't like the
surge upon switch on? Also I tried Homeseer the other day, could
this have stressed the unit in any way - clutching at straws here!

In any case the unit came from Homebase so I suspect there is little
chance of a replacement - assuming I could find the reciept!

Is there a more reliable way of comunicating with X10 from a PC? The
annoying thing is I have just finished building a dedicated HA PC and
was hoping to use the CM12U! I have Comfort but it's X10
functionality is very limited. HomeVision is the obvious choice, but
is financially out of the question.

Regards,

Chris Williams
