Re: Laptop IR

I realize this, and that is my plan. What I want to do is then have my
laptop send IR to other items that are in the same stack of kit. Things
like my Sky+ box and DVD. I want a web control panel for everything
all controlled via the PC - not much to ask :-). Looking through HomeSeer
it seems like I need one of a specific set of IR devices for it to work
anyway.
So I'm not sure there is a way to do all this.

There are so many options I'm not to sure where to go. Ideally I
want a PC in control of it all with a web interface (or some
custom thing I may do later).

I could look at an Ocelot, but that seems overkill, same with a
HomeVision unit. Hence my queries about using the built in IR
unit in the laptop - alternatively I could look at an external IR
unit - is there a way to plug one into a USB port? Which one
should I look at? Or is the laptop a lost cause - do I need to
get a real PC to do all this? I plan to one day anyway.

Once I have done that bit, how do I get HS set up to control
the A/V kit? How do I get the IR codes into the PC? I have
a pronto - is there a way to convert CCF files?

Also, anyone got any hints and tips or experience with configuring
a totally custom set of Homeseer pages?

Bov! - itching to move up to the next level!
