Re: Re: Linux Router Was OT: Kodak offer line constantly engaged :)

Justin,

You will mainly find installation takes longer & admin changes due to the perl scripting but once up it will probably perform reasonably well. I have used it on as low as P75 16 meg RAM.

I have dabbled with Linux in the past, SUSE, Mandrake, Red Hat; I never got on
very well with any of them and gave up.
Last week I downloaded SME 5.1.2 (was e-smith) thanks to a mention on this
list. All I can say is, it is superb!! Currently it is running on a P133 with
24Mb RAM. The web server is a bit slow (most of the setup is done through a
browser interface), but in general it works very well.
I have learned loads since I started using it (still have many, many Linux
questions though!)
The main reason I downloaded it was because of the IMAP mail support, I now
have one centralised mail system which can be accessed from anywhere, including
webmail.

When I feel more comfortable with this Linux disto I will be using it as my
router + mail, web, ftp & file server (on a higher spec machine though!).

Not sure about support for USB ADSL modem.

Justin.
