True when you're talking 144/168 pin DIMMs but these are 72 pin ones
which in the old Pentium Mobo's using 72pin SIMMs had to be installed
in
pairs.

Agreed but I do expect it to be pairs needed...
....perhaps Gareth could just pull one DIMM out of a penpad that he has
now and see whether it recognises just the memory in the one remaining
slot?
