What does switch mode mean?

Another thing to mention is that my logfile shows lots of commands received
like the following 'A777777777777 on, O33333333333 off.  Obviously
erroneous.

I think the problem - as we usually find - comes down to switch mode PSUs.
They're absolute buggers for banging out *HUGE* amounts of mains noise but
an X10 mains filter *SHOULD* cure it - if it doesn't then maybe there's a
fault with the filter?
